A day with the Mennite's

Our good friend Rob, shares the wonderful date of August 13 as his date of birth with Peter. In order to celebrate this joyous occasion, Rach (Rob's fiance) and I decided to plan a joint birthday weekend celebration. We had the 2010 Birthday Beach Bash in St Pete Beach, more specifically, we stayed at the cutest hotel "The Postcard Inn". As you all know, our group is big on themes, so we decided to make this weekend a "great men throughout history theme". The signature color was green, closest thing to Peridot (the birthday boys' birthstone), we had a sandwich bar in honor of August being "National Sandwich Month", we had a huge size party float and we had the beach as our witness to a great celebration with wonderful friends!. Secret ingredient: Coffee Iron chefs: Amanda and Tony Marquis versus Monica and Peter Mennite Location: Skype We decided to make a cooking competition similar to the Iron chef seen on the Food Network. Basically there are four dishes that must be made, an appetizer, an entree, a dessert and a drink. All must be made with the secret ingredient. The best iron chef couple wins. The funny part was that we didn't really know who would judge the dishes and declare a winner! We had a wonderful time and it felt like the four of us were really having a dinner party together. We went down to Miami for 4th of July weekend. Peter and I packed some clothes and grabbed the boys and embarked on an 8 hour drive to see my parents. Peter drove the entire way down and I pretty much just slept.....I kinda had too after I took 2 dramamines because I was feeling so car sick! We got there on Friday at about 9pm, ate dinner (a delicious meal made by my parents) and headed out to enjoy some of Miami's nightlife. We went to Taverna OPA and enjoyed greek ambience and some AWFUL EXPENSIVE drinks! (PS: a 15% gratuity was automatically added every time you ordered a drink). My parents were having a great time as well. They took an afternoon nap in order to be able to stay awake late that night....how cute are they! After a few hours, my dad looks at me and says I think we should take Peter out to experience miami "cuban" nightlife. What he meant by this was: let's take Peter to the 24 hour cuban restaurant and coffee shop and eat cuban sandwiches! Pet...

Once upon a time......just kidding! Yesterday June 18, 2010 Peter and Monica got re-married. Let me tell you the reasons that led to this event. We have been waiting for our DR marriage certificate for a month now and after many calls and e-mails down there, we have realized that the marriage certificate might take awhile. No big deal.....however, at Monica's work she is already known as Monica Mennite and her work license is still under Monica Mejia. So you can start imagining the conflict. Medicaid, medicare, etc were really giving the practice problems about the whole name issue. For all those smarty pants out there, a marriage certificate is needed to change your name and the catholic certificate does not suffice! The patient referrals were on hold until Monica filled out some paperwork and what name would she use. So this blog is dedicated to those who were not there last weekend and were missed. We went to Tampa, FL, stayed with the Talmage sisters and had a wonderful weekend with some of our great friends. We also had the opportunity to meet a new friend whose name for now will be "Mr Topless Brunch" . We drove to Tampa on Friday after I got out of work, when we got there we drove directly to Byblios. Byblios is located right around the corner of our old Rubideux apartment. We met up with our wonderful friend Eric and enjoyed being submerged in culture and an amazing atmosphere. We then drove to R2 house for an amazing BBQ. For those who don't know, R2 is the nickname I gave to our friends and fabulous couple Rob and Rachele.
