New kids on the Block

We were in Bora Bora when Peter pulls out an envelope. The envelope had one of those musical cards and it was a birthday card because apparently no anniversary card comes in a musical version. When I opened the card, Pete had blacked out the places where it said Happy Birthday and replaced it with Happy Anniversary. The card was very sweet and very Peter and the song he decided to record in it was "My cover girl" from New Kids on the Block (NKOTB).
Oh how do I remember being a "tween" and just loving the NKOTB. For those of you 80's babies, remember the HUGE buttons, the pillow cases, and the infatuation with 5 guys who were the coolest ever. Behind the card was an additional piece of paper. Paper is the traditional gift that married couples give to each other on their first anniversary. Poems, cards, books, paper copies of their vows etc, are some of the examples listed as potential gifts for the first married anniversary. Peter gave me a piece a paper that stated that I had 2 tickets to the NKOTB concert in Orlando Florida!!!!! OMG! So thoughtful and so super sweet! For a second I wondered weather because it was an anniversary present he was planning on being my plus one, not that I don't love to spend time with him and not that he wouldn't make NKOTB concert fun, but he really doesn't understand the passion we girls have towards the new kids. He then says, "Babe, the tickets are for you and one of your friend's and hotel and transportation are taken care of! OMG, I think again...I am so excited. When I was a tween I never had the opportunity to attend a NKOTB concert, it was until the age of 27 when I attended my first one and although the new kids were awesome, I didn't share that experience with one of my best friends. This time around, not only will I be in better seats but I will be sharing the experience with one of my best friends. ;)
For all of you friends in the Orlando and Tampa area, we will be down in Orlando Friday July 22, so if you want to come down and hang out after we "hang it tough" it would be a delight to see you all. In the mean time I will be looking for the perfect "New Kids concert" outfit!

Moral of the story: You can still feel like a tween, even when you are approaching your thirties.

A broom and the salt bottle

So we finally moved this weekend! How is it that we still have so much crap??? The move is really what inspired this blog story. I've been with Monica for some years now and during those years, we have had MANY moves, so I still don't now how Monica's superstitious "Colombian" beliefs still amuse me! According to Monica's family, when one moves, they leave behind the old broom and the bottle of salt. The reason is because you leave the bad luck from the old home (symbolized by the broom and salt bottle) and you buy new ones representing the good luck that will come in the new home. The funny part is that I can probably write a book regarding Monica and her family's superstitions (spiders, flies, pearls, dolls, glass breaking, the list goes on and on, but those other stories will be for future blogs). For now let's focus on the broom and the salt. It was our first night in the new place, monIca and I decided to grill out in celebration for a ha...

Gain or no Gain

So quick funny story.... It might be one of those "you had to be there stories" but I will try since it caused a lot of laughter for us. Last sunday we were at Sam's club buying our monthly stuff. We knew we needed detergent so we went to the cleaning aisle and looked for the gain detergent that we have been buying for many months now. It was such a great deal, we would get 133 onz for a little over 9 dollars. That's many many many loads of laundry. So as we walked down the aisle, I realized Peter had overlooked our great "gain" bottle. I yelled down the aisle "Pete it's right here, this is the one". Peter turns and smiles, holding in the laughter. He then said, well....now I know why our detergent has been sooooooo inexpensive. He then continued by saying, look at the bottle a little closer. We had been using the same bottle for such a long time now that I felt I knew every color, every letter, felt like a could describe the handle...
